Man convicted of attempted murder in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- According to the State Attorney's Office, 29-year-old Akeem Alexander Bessent was found guilty of attempted murder in the second degree, shooting or throwing deadly missiles and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say back in February 2013 the victim was driving on McQuade Street when another vehicle pulled in front of her and stopped. Bessent, who authorities say has a child with the victim, exited the car with a gun and fired several shots at the victim's car. The victim immediately reversed and crashed into JEA pole, which resulted in the car bursting into flames.

Bessnet faces 30 years to life in prison.
