A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder after the victim of a carjacking died from his injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said Johnathan Alexander Green carjacked a victim on Aug. 23 at 7:19 a.m. in the 9800 block of Beach Boulevard. A witness told police they saw Green jump into the driver's side of the victim's vehicle. The victim then jumped into the passenger side of his car and was partially hanging outside of the truck, police said.
As Green accelerated out of the parking lot, the victim was thrown from the vehicle, according to the police report. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries six days later on Aug. 29.
JSO arrested Green and charged him with carjacking, battery and giving a false name to police. Police later added the murder charge after the Medical Examiners ruled the victim's death a homicide.
Green is currently in the Duval County Jail on a $625,012 bond.
