Police have identified the suspect charged with shooting and killing the daughter of a JSO officer.
Eric Lamar Jackson, 27, turned himself in to police after allegedly shooting and killing Nekecheana Phillips, 27, Friday in the 4600 block of Hunt Street in Lakawana.
JSO says Phillips and Jackson had been in a prior relationship. According to court records, Phillips sought a domestic violence injunction against Jackson Wednesday. A temporary injunction was granted Thursday and a hearing on the matter was set for Jan. 2.
Police say Phillips, along with other individuals, arrived home Friday to find Eric Jackson inside, hiding. He was reportedly waiting for Phillips to return home.
When the victim saw Jackson inside, police say she ran back outside in an attempt to get away from him. The suspect then followed and confronted her as she sat outside in the car with the other individuals, according to JSO.
Jackson then allegedly shot Phillips multiple times, killing her. He was then seen fleeing the scene on foot.
Brandi Salinas, Phillips' neighbor came home and saw the crime scene moments after Phillips was shot.
“Here at Christmas time, we’re supposed to be around our loved ones. And they’re burying her," Salinas said.
Salinas says Phillips was called Nene by her friends and family. Salinas offered her condolences to Phillips' family.
“She was great mom, when you saw her with her kids, her kids were always dressed so well, she was active in their life. She was just a really lovely soul.”
The 27-year-old mother was killed days after she sought a restraining order against Eric Jackson.
Salinas says she was there the day he was served the protective order.
“Whenever they served the injunction, I came outside my house, I saw the officers, then I saw his face...something’s not right about him, the last few days his character was really dark.”
While Jackson remains in jail, a family is devastated.
“The little girls lost their mom and dad, and when I saw their faces yesterday, that’s the image I can’t get rid of,” Salinas said.
Jackson appeared in court Saturday afternoon. His next court date is scheduled for January 20, 2019. He is being held without bond.
