Rodney Oates, 23, was found unconscious and "appeared to be suffering from a chest wound" when an officer arrived to the scene of the crash at 11100 Main St. North.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is in critical condition after being unconscious following a crash and being stabbed on Jacksonville's Northside Wednesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Rodney Oates, 23, was found unconscious and "appeared to be suffering from a chest wound" when an officer arrived to the scene of the crash at 11100 Main St. N. shortly after 2:10 a.m., JSO's incident report states. Police say he was taken to UF Health.

After Oates was identified, JSO says it was determined that he had an "associated address nearby" at 11701 Palm Lake Dr., as officers searched the location and found "what appeared to be a crime scene."

"An evidence technician responded to the scene to secure the vehicle," JSO states in the report. "The vehicle was towed by Jimmy Wrecker to JSO's vehicle storage warehouse."

The sheriff's office says the incident, classified as "assault/battery," has "unknown circumstances," according to the report.

All lanes of Main Street between Cedar Bay Road and Baisden Road were closed for a couple hours Wednesday morning due to the incident.
