Jacksonville woman in 60s, man in 70s die in murder-suicide

The suspect in the case shot himself when police attempted to stop his car, police said. He was identified as a man in his 70s.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman in her 60s was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds at a house in the 3800 block of Collins Road Wednesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The person believed to be the shooter killed himself while police were attempting to stop his car later that evening, police said. He was identified as a man in his 70s. 

Police were called to the scene at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. 

After they found the woman, crime scene unit and homicide detectives arrived to investigate.

Police identified the car that the suspect in the shooting was driving and issued a BOLO.

The vehicle was located and police attempted a traffic stop on Old St. Augustine in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville.

Officers heard a gun fire inside the car. A man inside the car, believed to the suspect, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say this is an isolated incident related to domestic issues.
