JSO: Woman shot, hospitalized after 2 men 'forced entry' into her Southside home

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says when the men forced entry into the woman's apartment, it resulted in "an exchange of gunfire."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman in her late-40s was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being shot in the abdomen inside of her home on Jacksonville's Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Scott says around 2 a.m., officers responded to Vista Bay Apartment Homes, located at 8715 Belle Rive Blvd., in reference to the woman who was shot.

When officers arrived, the woman was taken to a local hospital where she is currently listed in non-life-threatening condition, JSO said.

"The initial investigation has revealed the suspects forced entry into the victim's residence, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire, leading to the victim being shot," Scott told First Coast News.

Scott said there were two people inside of the apartment unit as well as two suspects, and that the sheriff's office does not believe the suspects and victims know each other "at this point." Only one of the victims was shot, according to Scott, as currently no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 to provide it, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
