JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A teenager is recovering and police are searching for a suspect after a shooting in the Southpoint area Monday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Officers responded around 11 a.m. to 4600 Salisbury Road in reference to a reported person shot.
When officers arrived, a victim described as "a female in her late teens" was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to her shoulder. She is in non-life-threatening condition, according to police.
An initial investigation determined the victim was inside a parked vehicle in a hotel parking lot with two other people at the time of the shooting.
An unknown vehicle pulled into the parking lot and an individual stepped outside and started shooting at the vehicle with the three people inside, striking only the victim. Police said the suspect discharged 17 rounds at the victim's vehicle.
No suspect information was provided by police.
JSO's Violent Crime and Crime Scene detectives are on the scene canvassing for possible witnesses and video surveillance.
The investigation remains ongoing.
