JACKSONVILLE- A Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer is facing charges that she short-changed the department and three local apartment complexes during "off-duty" work.
Officer Deborah Young, a 6 1/2 year veteran of the department, is charged with three counts of petty theft and one count of official misconduct.
Police say Young was doing "off-duty" work at three apartment complexes. Her shifts were supposed to last four hours each. Another officer alerted commanders that Young was not staying the required time and an investigation began.
Investigators tracked her off-duty work for an hour. Each time, they say, Young did not put in the full four hours but logged the time with the department. Each four-hour shift is worth more than $300 in pay.
