JSO: Man who stabbed construction worker shot by officers in North Jacksonville

Police say the construction worker was waiving through drivers when he was attacked at random.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is in critical condition after police say he stabbed a construction worker, then pulled out the same weapon when police approached him, causing two deputies to open fire.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says this all started just before 11 p.m. Tuesday at a construction site along North Main Street near I-295. A construction worker was waiving cars past the work zone when police say a driver stabbed him.

The driver then drove off after a police officer at the construction site started to pursue him.

The stabbing suspect was eventually confronted in the 400 block of Duval Station Road. Officers say they initially used a taser on the man but ultimately two officers fired shots. The man was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning.

The construction worker is expected to be OK.
