JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering after he was shot on the Southside early Saturday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Officers responded to the 4800 block of Atlantic Boulevard, The Park at Pottsburg Creek, at approximately 2:40 a.m. to a man who had been shot once in the "hip area." The man was taken to a local hospital where he received medical treatment for his injury.
According to JSO, the initial investigation revealed the victim was visiting a female friend and fell asleep at her residence. While sleeping, the victim was awakened by the woman’s ex-boyfriend who was armed with a handgun.
The victim fled from the residence, two shots were fired and he was struck once in the hip. The injury the victim's injuries were non-life threatening, the agency said. A person of interest has been identified but not detained at this time.
