JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is in custody after police say he shot at another man following him in a truck near a Southside restaurant Wednesday afternoon.
Nicolas Brown, 26, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, petty theft, battery- touch or strike, and resisting a retail merchant.
According to a heavily redacted police report, officers responded to shots fired near Academy Sports, 9041 Southside Blvd., at approximately 2:20 p.m. Wednesday. A truck was following Brown, the suspect, over to LongHorn Steakhouse and 5 Guys.
The victim in the truck said he followed Brown out of the store and Brown yelled at him to stop following him and fired, leading the victim to flee, the report said. Officers recovered a spent shell casing in the LongHorn Steakhouse and 5 Guys parking lot. A witness stated he heard one gunshot and saw Brown head toward the Home Depot.
The report said a stolen teal backpack worth $24.99 was recovered.
The report said the victim's relationship to Brown was a "stranger."
Brown was arrested at 7651 Paradise Island around 6 p.m. hiding in palmetto bushes, the report said.
A spokesperson with JSO told First Coast News no news briefing will be held regarding the incident because no one was shot.
