Man shoots sister-in-law while arguing with wife in Jacksonville, police say

The man was taken into police custody Thursday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is recovering after a shooting in the city's Woodland Acres area Thursday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said around 5 p.m., officers responded to Free Avenue, just south of the Arlington Expressway, regarding a person who had been shot.

A woman in her 40s was taken to the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the leg, police said. 

The shooting stemmed from a "domestic dispute" between a husband and wife. The husband's sister-in-law intervened, and the husband shot her once in the leg, according to police.

The husband was taken into custody.

Police are waiting to obtain a search warrant for the residence where the incident took place.

JSO's Violent Crime and Crime Scene detectives were on the scene, canvasing for evidence and witnesses.

This is an ongoing investigation.
