JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was arrested on murder charges Friday, accused of being involved in a deadly 2023 shooting on Old Kings Road South, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Roberto Garcia Velez, 43, faces charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to the shooting death of 23-year-old Nahom Girmay that happened on Sept. 2, 2023.
Police say officers responded to the 6800 block of Old Kings Road South in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and took the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say through the investigation, Garcia Velez was identified as the suspect in the case.
An arrest warrant was issued for Garcia Velez, and he was ultimately found by SWAT personnel on Friday.
Garcia Velez was interviewed by investigators, arrested and taken to Duval County Jail where he is being held on no bond.
He is set to be in Duval County court on Feb. 26 at 9 a.m.
