JSO: Man robbed, shot in Jacksonville's Longbranch area

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man was walking near the intersection of Buckman Street and East 27th Street Wednesday night when he was robbed and shot.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was taken to a hospital Wednesday night after being robbed and shot in Jacksonville's Longbranch area on the city's Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO Sergeant Scott says around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the shooting, which happened near the intersection of Buckman Street and East 27th Street. When they arrived, the man identified as 48-year-old Willie Persley Jr., was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his hip, as he was then hospitalized in non-life-threatening condition.

"The initial investigation has revealed the victim was walking in the area when two unknown black males approached him, took his personal property, and shot him," Scott told First Coast News in a statement.

According to the incident report, the suspect is a Black male with a stocky build, dreadlocks, about 5'9 or 5'9 and 150 to 160 pounds, who was wearing a white shirt and dark pants.
