JSO looking for information in 2011 double homicide

In a quiet Westside neighborhood, two men were shot to death and though detectives have a person-of-interest, they need more information from the community.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bristol Bay Court is a quiet street, tucked into the Ortega Bluff neighborhood on Jacksonville's Westside. But on the night of June 29, 2011, the road was lit up with police lights.

Inside the single-story, brick home on the corner two men were found dead.

"John Ragin and Eric Stubbs were both deceased inside the residence, face down in the living room," said Detective Travis Oliver with the Cold Case Unit at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Both had been shot multiple times. Two hours before the men were found dead, another roommate who was out of town at the time, spoke with John Ragin on the phone and was worried about a person that was at the house.

"There was a person inside the residence, they were not expecting to be there," Oliver said. "That person had a very extensive history of robbery and very violent history in South Carolina."

When the roommate couldn't reach John Ragin later that night, he called Ragin's nephew to go check on the men. That's when the two were found dead.

There were three different caliber guns used at the scene, so Oliver believes there were possibly two shooters and either Stubbs or Ragin may have tried to fire back. The house was ransacked and a large sum of money was taken, detectives believe what happened could have been drug related.

Even though JSO has a person-of-interest, they need more information from the public.

"A small amount of information could be instrumental in us moving forward with an arrest," Oliver said.

We did receive a statement from the family of men that reads, "I ,Sheresa Stubbs, am the oldest sister of Eric and John. They were stepbrothers that were fatally shot on June 28, 2011, at John’s Ortega Bluff home in Jacksonville, Florida . I am desperately seeking assistance from anyone with any information to help both grieving families solve this case. To the community, look at this murder as if this was your brother, dad, grandchild, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, or best friend. Both victims had children and they will never get the opportunity to see their fathers ever again."
