JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of one of its dispatchers Wednesday.

JSO said it was notified Tuesday evening of 25-year-old Joy Stingley's arrest on a warrant for battery.

In a news release, the sheriff's office states that on May 19 just before 10:30 p.m., a Jacksonville Beach Police officer was flagged down near the intersection of 1st Street North and 3rd Avenue North in Jax Beach.

"The victim approached the officer and reported she had been robbed at a local establishment," the release states. "The victim went on to say she had been attacked by at least three females, and she believed during the attack her purse was stolen. The victim was able to describe her attacker but was unsure of her identity."

JSO said with follow-up assistance from the victim, along with reviewing all available evidence to include surveillance video in the area during the incident, Stingley was identified as a suspect. The release mentions the investigation found that she "only committed a battery on the victim, and her purse was not stolen by the suspect."

Stingley was arrested with help from JSO's Integrity Unit, according to the sheriff's office. She is currently in custody at the Duval County Jail and had been employed with JSO as a dispatcher since July 1.

"Following her arrest, Stingley resigned her position with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office," the release states.
