JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An arrest has been made in a fatal stabbing of a teen that took place on Jacksonville's Westside in 2022, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.
Ms'Tayari Chaka Cohen, 21, faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated battery upon a pregnant female relating to the incident.
On Sept. 5, 2022, a JSO news release states that patrol officers responded to "a reported stabbing of an individual that occurred in the 5900 block of Normandy Boulevard." When officers arrived, 18-year-old Laniya Frederick was found wounded, as she was then taken to a local hospital, the release states.
JSO says Laniya underwent surgery, but did not survive her injuries; she was pronounced dead on Sept. 10, 2022.
Then on July 24, an arrest warrant for manslaughter was obtained for Cohen, according to the sheriff's office. She was located and taken into custody on Monday.
