JSO: 16-year-old among 2 people shot at Westside park by '4 masked suspects'

The victims' injuries are non-life-threatening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people are recovering in the hospital after they were shot at a Westside park Tuesday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 4 p.m., officers responded to Du-Clay Park located at 6903 Seaboard Ave. after hearing several gunshots.

Officers were notified that two people, a 16-year-old boy and a 34-year-old woman, had driven themselves to a local hospital and both were suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said the initial investigation found there was a dispute between the victims and an "unknown group" at the park.

Shortly after the dispute, police said "four masked suspects" approached the victims, firing gunshots.

The teen was shot in the leg and the woman was shot in the shoulder, police said. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

JSO's Violent Crime and Crime Scene detectives were on the scene speaking with potential witnesses and canvasing for evidence. Multiple gun shell casings were found at the scene and police believe the suspects used handguns in the shooting.

When asked if the shooting was gang-related, police said there wasn't any information supporting that claim, but added it's still early in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500, email jsocrimetips@Jaxsheriff.org or contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
