JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after a shooting at the Les Chateaux Apartments Monday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said just before 5 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 7201 block of Arlington Expressway in reference to a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found a man in his mid-20s with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.
While officers were on scene, they learned the suspect, a woman in her mid-20s, was still at the scene. Police detained the woman for questioning.
JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene Units, along with the State Attorney's Office were on the scene conducting their respective investigations.
Police said the initial investigations showed the suspect and victim were involved in a domestic altercation that began inside a residence and led out into the parking lot.
During the altercation, police said the suspect shot a handgun at the victim, killing him.
Police said a young child was inside the residence at the time of the alleged dispute. The child was not hurt, and is currently with a family member in Jacksonville, according to police.
It is unclear what the relationship is, if any, between the child and the victim or suspect.
Investigators took the suspect to the Police Memorial Building for questioning.
At this time, it is unknown what or if the woman will face charges for the fatal shooting.
