Jailed Jacksonville homicide suspect charged in second murder

Hakeem Armani Robinson, 22, was charged on March 10 with second-degree murder in the Feb. 25, 2019 death of a 16-year-old boy.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 22-year-old man already in jail on a murder charge for an early 2020 shooting death in Arlington had a second one filed against him this week, according to court records.

Hakeem Armani Robinson, 22, was charged on March 10 with second-degree murder in the Feb. 25, 2019, death of 16-year-old Adrian Gainer Jr. at the Hilltop Village Apartments on West 45th Street, the latest arrest warrant said.

Robinson had already been jailed on Sept. 10 on the same charge in the death of 23-year-old Charles Quentin McCormick in the Dames Pointe Plaza at 7001 Merrill Road, the Sheriff's Office said.

The latest arrest warrant states that officers found Gainer dead from multiple gunshot wounds at the complex. Dozens of shell casings from a rifle were found where Gainer had been in a gazebo, all the way up to where he ran and died.

Investigators learned that Gainer had been in the gazebo with another person when they heard gunfire, then split up and tried to flee. A witness said he saw Gainer, nicknamed "Bibby," fall to the ground as he was shot, trying to protect himself by covering his head with his hands, the warrant said.

"Robinson ran up to Bibby and shot him at close range in the back of the head or neck as Bibby continued trying to shield himself," the warrant said.

The warrant also states that Robinson posted several photos and videos after Gainer's death, "bragging about the murder of Bibby." Community leaders and family members held a vigil for Gainer in that same gazebo days later.

The other homicide occurred about 11 a.m. Jan. 15, 2020, in the Merrill Road shopping center when McCormick, also known as "Lilbuck," was gunned down, police said.  An off-duty officer witnessed the drive-by shooting and chased the car until it crashed nearby and two men got away on foot.

The assailants then invaded a nearby house on Townsend Boulevard, changed clothes and held the homeowner hostage before someone drove up and fled with the pair, police said.

Two other people have also been jailed in the case as investigators continue looking for a final suspect, 26-year-old Abdul Kareem Robinson Jr., police said.
