JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is recovering at a local hospital after she was shot in the back while inside a home on Jacksonville's Westside Tuesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Scott says around 3 a.m., officers responded to 10700 Las Colinas Way in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, Scott says officers found the woman in her early 20s suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she is listed in non-life-threatening condition, police say.
Scott says JSO's initial investigation reveals that the woman was awake inside the home when a bullet came through from outside the home and struck her.
Police currently do not have suspect information and it is unknown whether the suspect was on foot or in a vehicle at the time the shooting happened, according to JSO. Scott says it is also unknown if the shooting was targeted or accidental as an investigation has been started to determine these circumstances.
Anyone with information on the shooting, is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
