JSO: Man dies at hospital following 'physical confrontation with fists'

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man was in his 40s and that the deadly confrontation happened inside of a house on the city's Northside.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has started an investigation into an incident where they say a man died following a "physical altercation" Monday morning, the agency told First Coast News.

Around 2 a.m., JSO Sergeant Lloyd says officers responded to the 1400 block of Palmdale Street on the city's Northside "about a battery with injuries."

When officers arrived, the man who was in his 40s, was suffering from life-threatening injuries, as he was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead "approximately three to four hours later," according to Lloyd.

JSO said the man was found inside of a house where there were "at least" three other people inside with him after the altercation happened. The sheriff's office also said that the house is a rental property.

"The circumstances and relationships of the parties involved is still unknown," Lloyd said. "The investigation is going to be in a pending classification, but we will continue our investigation with our partners at the State Attorney's Office and the Medical Examiner's Office. At this time, we don't have any outstanding suspects, so we are still conducting interviews at this time."

Lloyd said there were no weapons used in the altercation and that the incident is considered to be "isolated."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
