Clay sheriff investigating case of body found in Orange Park as homicide

A body was found near a dumpster Sunday in the 400 block of Bentwood Lane. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — UPDATE: First Coast News has received an incident report that states the following: : "Victim was/ Shot, Weapon/ Undetermined Firearm."

The report also states: "I responded to the area of 465 Bentwood Lane and 467 Bentwood Lane in reference to a suspicious person call for service in which an unknown black female was found unresponsive and covered in what appeared to be blood."

Clay County sheriff's investigators are now investigating the case of a person found dead by a dumpster Sunday in Orange Park as a homicide. The sheriff's office was called to the 400 block of Brentwood Lane at around 12:10 p.m. for a report of a body near a dumpster. 

Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim and would only say, "The victim is a Black female and has been identified as a resident of Jacksonville," a Clay County Sheriff's Office news release states. "CCSO Robbery-Homicide detectives are actively pursuing leads and conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident."
