JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two young men were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in the Lackawanna area.
It happened in the 3300 block of Rayford Street. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to the area at 11:46 a.m. in reference to a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found two people shot within about half a block of each other. There is evidence that the shooting took place outside of a home, JSO said.
Both victims were males in their late teens or early 20s, according to police. Additional people were detained at the scene for questioning, and the victims and witnesses have given "various levels of cooperation" with investigators, according to JSO.
Police said it is unclear what led to the shooting and what the relationships between the victims and possible suspects are. But, JSO said, they do have information that lead them to believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The JSO Violent Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500. You can also remain anonymous by calling First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
