JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man who barricaded himself in his ex-wife's home after an attempted burglary was later killed with a single shot by a police veteran, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The call came in at 11:35 a.m. and SWAT officers took over the scene on Caribbean Court in Arlington 90 minutes later.
The suspect exited the house and waved a gun in his hand, acting erratically, before running back inside, said T.K. Waters, chief of the investigation division.
"A few moments later, he came back outside and pointed his firearm toward the police officer. The officer fired one round, striking him," Waters said.
The suspect died at the scene and the identity of the man has not yet been released by police.
Officer M.S. Clark was identified as the JSO officer who shot the suspect. He is a 12-year JSO veteran and this is his first officer-involved shooting.
He was placed on leave while the investigation continues. The State Attorney's Office is also investigating the shooting.
Neighbors told First Coast News they were stuck in their cars and were not allowed to access their homes during the standoff.
