JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville mother was shot when her son and his father were struggling over a gun, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO Sgt. Karen Dukes said the argument happened in the parking lot of the North Florida Educational Institute on Lawton Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
She says no students at the school were involved or were present. No one involved was a student: The son is in his 30's and his father is in his 50's.
Dukes said the father told his son he was "not interested in engaging in the argument because he was armed, and lawfully able to be armed."
They began to struggle over the gun. It discharged and hit the mother, Dukes said.
She was shot in the shoulder. Her injuries are not life-threatening and she was taken to the hospital.
Everyone involved was detained and will be interviewed.
