DOJ: Jacksonville man who fired gun near girlfriend's feet in late 2023 will be deported after 2-year sentence

The Department of Justice said in a release that Honduran national Edgar Aquino, 20, was charged with being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Honduran national will spend two years in federal prison prior to his deportation, according to the Department of Justice.

Edgar Aquino, 20, was sentenced to two years in federal prison, for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm. Aquino pleaded guilty to that offense on March 28, 2024. Following his prison term, Aquino will be deported from the United States, the release said.

According to the court documents, on Nov. 16, 2023, Aquino was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend firing a Glock pistol five feet away from his girlfriend’s feet. He was arrested by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers and admitted to possessing the firearm. 

Aquino told investigators he was a Honduran national and crossed into the country through Mexico on April 2, 2019. 

The case was investigated by the ATF, Homeland Security Investigations and the JSO. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro and the sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard.
