Jacksonville man killed during Daytona Beach traffic stop

The driver exited his vehicle on I-95 and was Tased by the officer. He then walked into traffic and was hit by multiple vehicles, police said.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is dead following a traffic stop in Daytona Beach on Saturday at about 7:25 p.m. A Florida Highway Patrol officer initiated the stop for a possible impaired driver, an FHP news release states. The vehicle was pulled over in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in the area of LGPA Boulevard.

The driver exited the vehicle against the trooper's demands to remain inside, the news release states. The trooper then ordered the 40-year-old male to get on the ground. When the driver didn't comply, the trooper deployed his Taser striking the man. After a brief struggle, the driver began walking in the southbound lanes into approaching traffic, the news release states. He was struck by multiple vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release states.

The identity of the driver was not released. No other injuries were reported.
