Jacksonville man killed by single gunshot after argument escalates

The shooting happened on the city's Northside on Monday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his late 20s was killed by a single gunshot after an argument escalated Monday night on Jacksonville's Northside, police say.

The shooting took place in the 4000 block of Anderson Woods Court. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says around 4 p.m., the victim was taken to the hospital, where he "tragically" passed away from gunshot wounds.

The case is "pending classification," meaning JSO has not deemed it a homicide. They are waiting for information from the medical examiner.

Police say the suspect and victim knew each other.

"This was a tragic incident that took place, and we know that there is no threat to the community," Sgt. Ray Reeves with JSO said. "This was an isolated incident."

Police are interviewing everyone involved and say all parties are cooperating.
