JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man accused of setting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend's home on fire before stabbing him to death was found guilty of murder in Duval County Court on Tuesday.
A Duval County jury found Randall Brown guilty of first-degree murder, armed burglary, and assault or battery, according to a release from the State Attorney's Office
Officials said the victim and his girlfriend woke up inside a burning home in Northwest Jacksonville between 1-3 a.m. Aug. 3, 2021, and discovered Brown pouring gasoline on the front door while setting it on fire.
The victim approached Brown and was attacked and stabbed more than 80 times, the release said.
The victim's girlfriend, identified by Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigators as Kissy Mackey, called 911 to report the incident around 3 a.m. When first responders arrived on the scene, they attempted to save the victim's life, but all attempts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
Officers used several items found at the scene to aid in the search for Brown, including a knife, backpack, gas container, the victim's shirt found a block from the crime scene, and a GPS tracking device registered to Brown.
Investigators also found the victim's blood on the inside of Brown's car.
JSO investigators said Mackey had broken up with Brown just weeks before the deadly stabbing. Also around the same time, Mackey's son died, and she told Brown "she was about to be rich," according to the release.
Officials said Brown knew Mackey was dating another man, and in an attempt to "win her back," put the GPS tracking device on her car to track where she was sleeping at night.
Investigators also discovered Brown's Google history before and after the murder included searches like: 'How to kill someone with a knife' and other "incriminating searches," the release states.
Just hours after her 'boyfriend' was killed, Mackey changed her Facebook status to "in a relationship" with Brown.
Mackey is now charged with accessory after the fact and is being prosecuted separately, according to the release.
The State is seeking the death penalty against Brown. His penalty phase began in Duval County Court on Wednesday.
