JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Lyft driver was injured during a carjacking involving three passengers he picked up, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
What exactly happened is largely redacted, but a report from JSO shows that Jai Ford, 31, was arrested on carjacking charges related to this incident. Police say there are two female suspects who haven't been identified yet.
Ford's arrest report says police were called to the location of the car jacking on Arlington Expressway. They found the car, but the Lyft driver had fled into the woods "out of fear of the suspects," and wasn't found immediately.
In the car, they saw a broken bottle in the driver's seat and a hat with "what appeared like blood on it" also in the driver's seat.
Police eventually found the Lyft driver and he was tended to by Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department personnel. He was bleeding from the right side of his head and back, but he did not go to the hospital.
He told police he had picked up a man and two women and dropped them off at the Red Bay Apartments on Arlington Expressway. He then went to open his trunk. This is when the male suspect, later identified as Ford, became involved in the crime. What exactly he did to the Lyft driver is redacted from police records.
The driver said the man fled on foot. What happened to the other two suspects is redacted, but JSO has not identified them at this time.
