Jacksonville doctor arrested in 2nd sex case

Om Parkash Kapoor of Hickory Trace Lane was arrested Friday on a sexual battery charge, then released on bail the next day, jail records show.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A 50-year-old Jacksonville doctor has been arrested on a charge of sexual battery less than a year after he was sued by a male patient who said he was sexually assaulted during a 2017 medical exam, the Sheriff's Office said.

Om Parkash Kapoor of Hickory Trace Lane was arrested Friday on the charge, then released on bail the next day, jail records show.

The redacted arrest report says he turned himself in on a warrant for sexual battery, listing the offense location as his home. The warrant indicates the victim was young and was spending the night there about three years ago.

The warrant states Kapoor came into the bedroom where the victim was sleeping, took off his sweatpants, got in bed and the sexual assault occurred. The victim reported the incident to his mother and a counselor this year, the warrant said.

This was his second arrest in the past three years after Kapoor was charged with battery and indecent exposure in 2017, the Sheriff's Office said. The 2017 charges and lawsuit are from the same incident.

The 12-page lawsuit says the patient was in the doctor's office for an exam and was naked on the examination table when he "heard Kapoor moaning" and turned around to see him masturbating, the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit said the doctor cleaned up with a napkin and threw it away before leaving the room. But the patient retrieved the napkin, put it in a bag and took it to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed what was in the napkin was Kapoor’s semen, and he was arrested on Dec. 20, 2017, the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit cites an almost identical incident in 2012 while Kapoor was employed at Baptist Infectious Disease Consultants.

Hospital officials said the 2012 complaint was reported to police and the Department of Health, and he was permitted to continue to practice in Florida without restriction. The 2017 complaint was "investigated and addressed, which ultimately led to Dr. Kapoor’s resignation in 2018," the hospital said.

The lawsuit and the 2017 case have not been resolved yet, according to court records.
