BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. — An inmate who escaped from the Bradford County Jail Tuesday morning, was captured following a "brief foot pursuit," according to a Facebook post by Sheriff Gordon Smith.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the inmate, Mark Randall Hersey, escaped from custody, Smith said. He is currently serving a sentence for contempt of court, the sheriff said in the post.

Bradford County Sheriff's deputies, the Florida Department of Corrections K-9 Team and the Bradford-Union SWAT Team responded to the alert of Hersey's escape to begin the investigation and search. At approximately 10:09 a.m., Smith says "information was received regarding a potential location for Hersey" in Hampton, Fla.

Deputies then responded to the scene and found Hersey in nearby woods, where he was arrested on charges of escape, with "multiple other charges pending the outcome of the investigation," according to Smith.

The sheriff says more information will be released at a later, unspecified time.
