NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — The Nassau County Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains found in Four Creeks State Forest Friday.
NCSO says a hunter found human bones while walking on the Old Wood Shingle Mill Trail in Callahan.
Crime scene investigators were searching the area for evidence Friday as they try to identify the deceased.
The bones will be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for forensic analysis. This should allow police to identify the person. NCSO says the medical examiner will also work to determine the cause of death and approximate time of death.
“This investigation is in its preliminary stages," Sheriff Bill Leeper said. "We will provide updates to the public as new information becomes available.”
Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Nassau County Sheriff's Office at 904-225-5174; 904-548-4009.
