Update | Foul play suspected after woman found dead in Brentwood apartment

Investigators believe foul play is involved in the woman's death, noting signs of trauma were located on the victim's body when she was found on Wednesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said foul play is suspected after a woman was found dead inside a Brentwood apartment Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the 3200 block of Flower Garden Lane around 10 a.m. Wednesday regarding a report of a deceased person.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive woman inside an apartment. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the woman dead on the scene.

Police said no one else was found inside the apartment, and the victim's age is unknown.

Right now, investigators believe foul play is involved in the woman's death, noting signs of trauma were located on the victim's body when she was found.

An exact cause of death is pending an autopsy with the Medical Examiner's Office.

One building in the Brentwood Lakes Apartments was taped off for several hours during the investigation.

Two people were sitting in the back of those cruisers when First Coast News arrived. The sergeant said they were potential witnesses who were cooperating.

Neighbors in other buildings looked on as they tried to figure out who they knew in the building and if they’d just lost someone they cared about.

“I was leaving to take my girls some lunch and I just happened to see it," said Talicia Cyler, who lives in the building across from where the body was found. "I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ When I came back, they started putting out the tape and stuff and I was like, ‘Well, something is going on.’”

Cyler says she’s lived in the complex for a few years and sees crime scenes every once in a while. It still surprises her and worries her every time, and she’s hoping something can be done to make the area safer.

“What being going on out here," said Cyler. "I be in my room, and they’re doing all kinds of stuff out here. Drugs, guns. They need to put a camera out here. Something’s got to give, you know?”

JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene detectives were on the scene, along with members of the State Attorney's Office conducting their respective investigations.

Detectives said the apartment in which the victim was found did not appear to be lived in.

No suspect is currently in police custody.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact JSO's non-emergency number at (904) 630-0500 or to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
