GA 4-year-old fatally wounded when left unattended in car with handgun, police say

A 25-year-old who was dating the child's mother has been arrested and is facing murder charges.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A four-year-old was fatally wounded when he was left unattended in a car with an unsecured gun Wednesday, the Glynn County Police Department said.

The child was taken to a Brunswick hospital in critical condition and police were called to the hospital at about 7:23 p.m.

He was transferred to UF Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, where he died of his injuries.

GCPD investigators and crime scene technicians launched an investigation and were able to determine that the incident happened at a residence on Habersham Street. This is where the child was left unsupervised with the gun.

Joshua Codogan, 25, who was dating the boy's mother, has been arrested in the case.

He is charged with second degree murder and tampering with evidence.
