FWC: St. Augustine man grounds stolen boat valued at $100K

Anthony Terry, 43, was charged with property theft - $100,000 or more. The boat was a "total loss," the arrest report stated.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A St. Augustine man is in custody after Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers said he took a boat from a Zamora Street business and grounded.

According to the arrest report, 43-year-old Anthony Terry was involved in a boating accident at Porpoise Point Tuesday around 9:15 a.m. The report described the boat as a "total loss" and said the boat is currently under water on the North Shoal of the St. Augustine Inlet.

Terry said he bought the vessel from a man for $1,000 despite the boat's value of more than $100,000, the report said. Terry then told officers he bought it for $500,000. The report said Terry did not have the vessel title and no bill of sale was generated.

The boat was registered to Phoenix Resources Inc. based at 50 Zamora St. The owners were unaware the boat was stolen and said they had never met Terry, the report stated.

Officers were directed to a smaller Chris Craft boat Terry purchased for $1,000. Officers later met and arrested Terry near the Conch House Marina.

Terry's probation officer said Terry is on probation for domestic battery and his ankle monitor was dead, a violation of his probation.

Following his arrest, officers said Terry was taken to the hospital after slamming his head in the back of the patrol vehicle. He made threats against the officer's life, the report continued, leading to a felony intimidation charge.
