Former Fletcher High School teacher sentenced for sexual relations with students

A former Fletcher High School teacher was sentenced last week after having sexual relations with students while he was employed at the school from 2015 to 2017.

A former Fletcher High School teacher was sentenced last week after having sex with students while he was employed at the school.

Corey French was sentenced to three years in jail and five months of probation last Thursday as part of a plea deal for two counts of unlawful sex relating to the sexual acts.

Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene released a statement Tuesday saying, “As superintendent, I am angered that a person would use his position as an educator to harm children. I want parents to know that I have no tolerance for this kind of behavior and that we will cooperate fully with external authorities to prosecute any person who is alleged to have harmed one of our students.”

The incidents took place between the years of 2015 and 2017.

According to our media partners at the Florida Times-Union, the two students told Corey French's wife of the affair and showed her photos and screenshots of messages with him to prove it.

The two girls decided to tell French’s wife, they said, because they feared he would victimize another student, reports the Florida Times-Union. They also said they were upset that he wasn’t leaving his wife.
