CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A former Clay County firefighter was arrested early Thursday morning on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, wearing a bulletproof vest while committing "certain offenses" and reckless driving.
Photos from the Clay County Sheriff's Office show Zack Coon II, 36, banging on the door at the public entrance to the Clay County Jail, shirtless and wearing a bulletproof vest.
CCSO says after this incident, at around 5:09 a.m., Coon got into his car and drove out of the jail parking lot in a "reckless manor." This was the beginning of a search for Coon that led to his apprehension. When he was taken into custody, he was found with several weapons, including a bow and arrows, knives and ammunition, police said.
Deputies and detectives began looking for Coon due to his erratic behavior, CCSO said.
A Clay County Fire Station called 911 shortly after, reporting that Coon was in their parking lot. The caller was "concerned for the safety of all CCFR personnel on the scene based on previous encounters," CCSO said.
During the call, the caller said Coon fled the parking lot. Deputies were able to track Coon down.
He was allegedly speeding and attempted to ram a deputy's vehicle, running the vehicle off the road.
He then returned to the fire station, continuing to drive recklessly, and police were able to arrest him.
