BUNNELL, Fla. — A Daytona North woman is facing charges after fighting a juvenile at a Flagler County bus stop.
On Aug. 15, 2024, Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Mahogany Boulevard and Honeytree Street in Daytona North regarding a fight at a Flagler Palm Coast High School bus stop.
Two juveniles began a "mutually agreed upon fight" once they left the bus, the sheriff's office said, apparently after an argument after "having a falling out over the summer."
One of the juvenile’s mothers, 34-year-old Kathryn Stephanopoulos, was waiting at the bus stop after being told about the fight. Stephanopoulos joined the fight instead of trying to break it up, police said, placing the juvenile in a headlock and reportedly restricted her breathing at one point.
Deputies said the Stephanopoulos' child then started a second fight with another student at the bus stop who was trying to break up the fight. The juvenile began arguing with Stephanopoulos, hitting her in the face with a full metal cup, according to deputies.
Stephanopoulos was arrested Monday on one count of felony child abuse and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. Deputies also found a video of the fight.
One juvenile was arrested on a felony aggravated battery charge, and other juvenile misdemeanor charges were forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.
