FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A man arrested in Flagler County Tuesday is facing charges for a 2010 cold case murder in Virginia, a release states.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Timothy Hickerson was stopped by deputies on Old Kings Road after running a red light.
Deputies said Hickerson had an active fugitive warrant from Virginia for the murder of Shane Donahue, 23. Hickerson was arrested on warrants for second-degree murder and burglary.
“This shows there is no such thing as a simple traffic stop. This one ended with a fugitive meeting justice who was wanted for a murder that occurred more than 14 years ago.” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.
Donohue was reported missing March 24, 2010, and was last seen leaving his parents' Nokesville home but the case went cold.
Recently, Virginia investigators discovered new information and reopened the investigation into Donohue's disappearance.
The release said detectives learned Hickerson and Donohue were seen leaving the victim's parents' home together and returning to the victim's home nearby.
While Donahue's remains have not been located, he is presumed dead by Virginia authorities.
The investigation revealed that Hickerson was connected to a burglary at Donahue's home days before his disappearance.
Hickerson will be held on no bond until he is extradited to Virginia. He had been living in Palm Coast since 2022.
“If you’re a fugitive, we will catch you regardless of where you ran from and take you to jail,” said Staly.
