GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gainesville Police Department is actively investigating a deadly shooting at the 800 block of NW 4th Place, several minutes from the University of Florida.
Antonio Mason, 35, was holding his infant daughter when he was shot and killed late Wednesday night.
Mason's daughter and another adult male who was at the scene of the crime both suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 11:39 p.m. on Wednesday night, the GPD received multiple emergency calls reporting shots being fired at a house. Officers were in the area when the calls came in.
According to eyewitnesses it is believed that that there are two black male suspects who came into the residence wearing masks and began firing shots from the threshold of the front door. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
"What kind of person can point a gun at a father holding an infant and make the barbaric decision to pull that trigger?" said GPD's spokesperson, Officer Ben Tobias. "We are expending every resource we have available to try to identify and capture those responsible for this horrendous act of violence."
A possible motive and any details pertaining to the shooters is still unknown. Investigators are actively working to determine their identity and whereabouts.
GPD is offering a $3,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the persons responsible for last night's shooting.
