JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A family is calling out for answers, after a teen was found dead following a birthday party at an apartment complex in the Baymeadows area.
Mayke Vogel was a middle child in a family of four, had dreams of playing basketball or going to school to become a chiropractor.
He was just 10 days away from his 17th birthday when he was shot and killed.
“He would just dance around the kitchen, like even during Christmas, were cooking breakfast and he’s dancing in his robe, he was just a trip to be around, a good kid to be around," Heather Moorer, Vogel's mom, said.
His 17th birthday would have been April 11.
“We were going to have a big cook out and everything, take him to his favorite restaurant , we were going to do it big for him we really were… we still are," Moorer said.
Saturday morning Vogel was found shot killed at The Avenues Luxury Apartments. Witness told police he left the party alone, then witnesses heard gunshots, and came outside to find the teen dead.
“I know there are people out there who know who killed my son and I know they know exactly who did it, I just need them to tell me who did it," Moorer said.
The family says they don't know why Vogel was killed or who could have done it. Not only are they calling for justice, but they also want to see the violence to stop
“Nobody should have to feel this pain, that was my heart and someone took him from me… it is out of control," Moorer said.
Anyone with information is asked to reach out to crime stoppers.
The family also has a GoFundMe set up to help pay for funeral costs. They are still planning to celebrate his birthday on April 11th.
