JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several business owners in Jacksonville's San Marco area are cleaning up and searching for answers Wednesday morning after windows of 10 businesses were smashed.

Scott Riley, the owner of Missy Riley Art & Pieces, located at 1992 San Marco Blvd., tells First Coast News that a rock was found inside the business when they opened up, as they are now left sweeping glass. The owner says merchandise was damaged, but nothing was stolen.
“First time it’s ever happened to me, in 40 years. We had a bunch of product here, nothing taken. It’s more of a pain because we have to clean up," said Riley.
A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report states around 5:15 a.m. officers responded to Maple Street Biscuit Company on San Marco Boulevard regarding criminal mischief.
The business owner told police when she got to work, she saw one of the business' windows smashed. She told police she believed someone used rocks to shatter the window. Police saw rocks inside and outside the business, according to the report.
Around 30 minutes after responding to Maple Street, officers discovered the Firehouse Subs at 1949 San Marco Blvd. also had smashed windows, a separate JSO incident report states.
The regional manager for Firehouse Subs, at 1949 San Marco Blvd., told First Coast News it's against policy to release surveillance video, but said theirs appears to show a man walk in through the shattered window, walk around the lobby for a few minutes, then leave the same way he came in. Police said the damage to the Firehouse Subs was approximately $1,200.
A suspect description provided by JSO states a man had on a black hoodie, red shorts, white socks and black shoes.
The San Marco Merchants Association said in a release: "The perpetrator appears to have started at San Marco Blvd. and Sorrento Rd. (Sherwin Williams) around 1:30 a.m. and ended at Atlantic Blvd. and Naldo Ave. (Firehouse Subs) around 2:15 a.m."
Including all the business damage, JSO believes it was about $30,000 worth of damage, with only about $15 worth of chips and soda stolen.
