DOJ: Columbia County man indicted for threatening to kill former president's wife, US Secret Service agents

Eric Evan Brown, 57, is accused of threatening to kill the former president's spouse and two United States Secret Service agents.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Columbia County man is facing charges stemming from an April social media post that threatened to kill the former president's wife, according to a release from the Department of Justice.

Court documents state on April 7, Eric Evan Brown, 57, made a post on the social media platform X, formally Twitter, threatening the spouse of the former president, who is a United States Secret Service protectee.

The DOJ does not name the spouse the threat was made against.

On May 9, as two U.S. Secret Service agents were investigating the threats, the DOJ said Brown threatened to assault and murder them.

Brown appeared in federal court for the first time Monday and was ordered to be detained.

He faces charges of interstate transmission of a threat to injure, threatening a U.S. Secret Service protectee, two counts of forcibly assaulting a federal officer without use of a deadly weapon and two counts of threatening a federal official.

If convicted on all counts, Brown could face up to 41 years in prison, according to the DOJ.
