Teenager shot in Ribault area of Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 14-year-old is expected to be OK after accidentally shooting himself in the Ribault area Friday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

This comes as an update, as previously JSO said that the boy was a victim of a crime. Police say during the course of the investigation they discovered that this was not true.

JSO says the incident happened around 6 p.m. in the 2900 block of Van Gundy Road.

The teenager was struck in his lower extremities and was taken to a hospital, according to JSO.

The teenager initially told police that he was walking down the road when a dark-colored sedan drove past him and started firing.

JSO says they have learned this is not true.

Police say the boy claims he found the gun.
