The sheriff's office said the victim was inside a car with four or five others around 4;45 p.m. when he was shot in the chest at an intersection in the Spring Lake Estates neighborhood off Lem Turner Road.
Deputies say someone inside the vehicle called 911 and they rushed the victim to West Nassau High School. From there, the 16-year-old was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
