TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Denise Williams has been sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday for the murder of her then-husband, Mike Williams, nearly 20 years ago.
Denise was also sentenced to 30 years for a second count. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Last month, Denise Williams was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory to murder, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and two counts of insurance fraud.
The accessory charge was dismissed during a hearing in January since the law states someone cannot simultaneously be an accessory in a murder they've been convicted of.
As first reported by the Tallahassee Democrat's Jennifer Portman, Denise Williams was arrested for first-degree murder, accessory to murder, and conspiracy to commit murder after her husband's remains were recovered back in 2017 after being missing for more than 17 years.
The case was originally classified as a drowning before investigators determined he was murdered.
Denise Williams was married to Mike Williams before having an affair with Mike's friend, Brian Winchester. The two hatched a plot to murder Mike Williams and collect the insurance money.
Winchester struck a plea deal with the state attorney's office prior to the Denise Williams trial that allowed for him to give vivid details about the crime without fear of prosecution. The deal stated that no statements made by him could be held against him in a court of law.
Winchester admitted to shooting Mike in the head during a fishing trip on Tallahassee.
