UPDATE: The jury has reached a verdict in the corruption case involving former Jacksonville City Council members Katrina Brown and Reginal Brown, no relation.
Jurors arrived at the federal courthouse to resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Wednesday marked the second day of deliberations.
The jury did not enter the courtroom, but reported directly to the jury deliberation chamber, off the 10th-floor courtroom.
Neither Katrina Brown nor Reggie Brown appeared in court and are not required to be there. U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard has only asked that all parties be able to be contacted by phone and not more than five minutes away from court in case jurors have a question or a verdict. Otherwise, jurors will be left to do their work.
Tuesday, they deliberated for a little over two hours before they were excused for the day. Their elected foreperson, a white female, said they were ready to leave because some jurors had childcare issues they needed to attend to.
With 38 counts and two defendants, it’s expected it will take jurors hours to complete the verdict forms, even if they are in agreement on all counts.
Wednesday marks the eighth day since jurors first reported to Federal Court for jury duty. They are not sequestered, but have been instructed to avoid all news or conversations about the case.
