JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman who worked as a part-time school crossing guard for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for four years has been arrested, facing charges related to a hit-and-run that left a man in critical condition.
Carolyn Bacon, 57, is facing charges of hit-and-run with serious injuries and evidence tampering.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the hit-and-run took place at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue North and New Kings Road around 11 a.m. Sunday. The victim was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
Witnesses told JSO the car that hit the victim had fled the scene, going south on Edgewood. A witness also provided JSO with a potential license plate number.
An investigation led officers to Bacon's home, where they found the car, JSO said. She was detained and subsequently arrested.
Bacon began her work with JSO in March 2018. After her arrest, she resigned from her position.
